Gothers.com… Going strong

Hey there folks. Sorry about the lack of updates, but I haven’t got any new CDs to review (although I did receive a CD case sans the CD) and am too lazy to keep up with the events and stuff. Also, I have been spending a lot of time pouring over Gothers.com which has continued to grow (293 bodies at last count - not huge, but not small). So if you are looking for where Igor’s chilling, head on down to the arena.

Stiff Valentine (Can) - Loveless Review

The members of Stiff Valentine describe their blend of music as “industrial metal disco” (well that’s what some mag said), which rings true with their mix of electro, guttural screamo vocals and heavy guitar riffs found on their EP, Loveless. There is also a strong anger pumping through these songs as evidenced by the almost homicidal hatred of the number 23 in the bands opening track by the same name. The songs are a twisted mix of aggression with a strangely dancable beat thumping throughout the album.

Aside from Number 23 the band serves out a number gamboling vitriolic selection of songs.

The second track Absolution is a speedballing riot of a song, while Prison G starts as a slower somber track which explodes into a heavy rock part-way through. The forth track, Breaking Point, a quality hard electro piece, is followed by straight hard rock in Subsonic. The final song, Suck, is a fun speed rock piece.

Overall, I found this EP quite enjoyable and quite refreshing with tongue-in-cheek songs like Number 23 and Suck. The other songs also go down well on my iPod. Just don’t mention the number 23 around these guys.

Check them out at Stiff Valentine or on Myspace.

Tour New York with CitySights NY

I have never had the chance to visit America yet, but if I do get a chance one place I would love to visit is New York. However, I would not know where to start and would need help with New York Sightseeing. Preparing to visit a major city anywhere can be a daunting task to do by oneself.

If you have ever wanted to visit New York, but had little or know experience of information on all the city’s sites, then CitySights NY is for you. CitySights NY offers sightseeing tours in a double decker bus allowing for broad sightseeing tours in New York. CitySights NY offers a lot more than the double decker bus tours, such as tickets to attractions, daily trips to Boston, Washington DC and Philadelphia along with shopping trips to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets.

If I ever get a chance to visit New York I would be very interested in taking a tour through the city on a CitySights NY bus to get a good view of all the important and interesting sights of this grand city.

If you are interested in learning more about touring New York then check out the CitySights NY Web site.

Gothers.com Social Network Officially Open

After testing, I am pleased to announce that Gothers.com is officially open. Gothers.com is a social network site in a similar vein to MySpace, except it’s in black and red. As a couple of the early members have found you can also customize/pimp your page. Currently there are a few dozen members, a couple of musicians offering online versions of their music, but to get this site popping I need more of you fine folk to join in.

JGoth.com will remain as my main news blog, but I will need to spend more time in the Gothers network from now on. So without further ado heeeeere’s Gothers!

JGoth Review of HotelReservations.com

HotelReservations.com offers a range of online services for international travelers. Aside from discount hotels, the service also offers flight bookings and car rental services. The hotel bookings themselves offer a range of hotels, motels, resorts, vacation rentals and more.

The first thing I noticed upon entering the site was the easy-to-use interface which let me select hotels by destination, or switch to flights, car rentals and vacation packages. The site operates intuitively and while you cannot book a hotel in Tehran, Iran (my first uber challenge!), the bookings system offers numerous hotels, motels and resorts from many cities around the world.

The system also allows you to quickly search for availability of hotels by pricing date, number of adults and children. I was quite happy to find numerous results for Nagoya, Japan during my second challenge. The interface is very easy to use and the information for each hotel, motel and other listings and the amount of time required from the initial search to booking would take just a few minutes.

The site also allows flight bookings and car rental services. The flight bookings were a breeze to use allowing to you set your itinerary before letting the computer gather the best options for your journey. The return trip prices for my requirements from Tokyo to my hometown were quite reasonable and, as with the hotel/motel bookings. The car rentals part of this service which covers a vast array of cities. The prices for rental in my hometown were competitive with car rentals I have used in the past.

Aside from these features HotelReservations.com offers vacation rentals and vacation packages.

Overall, during my testing of the site, I felt that HotelReservations.com is a superior booking site for travelers. There may be some package combinations that could be handled cheaply in some cases, but overall I found the pricing for HotelReservations.com to be quite competitive, not to mention comprehensive. It is certainly a service I would be happy to use for organizing my next venture back home!

Nine Inch Nails Ghosts I-IV Review

Advertising various products and thinggies in the blog recently has helped me get a little online stash allowing for purchases of things like games and music. About two weeks ago I bought and downloaded Nine Inch Nails’ Ghosts I-IV purely instrumental release. I have listened to the entire series a couple of times and I have grown very fond of it.
